The Faculty of Science at ELTE nationally has had long-standing traditions in tertiary-level physics education. As a result of the Bologna process a new educational system has been developing in higher education in Hungary, which means that the traditional physics-based degree programs – such as physics, physics teacher, IT–physics, astronomy, geophysics and meteorology, previously taught at ELTE – appear as independent majors only in the second cycle. The main objective of the BSc course in Physics, founded in 2006, is to lay the foundation for the above majors in such a way that our BSc graduates leaving the university will also be able to enter the labour market. The Institute of Physics strives to preserve the values and diversity of physics education in the changing educational structure, as well.
